The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs will defeat the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes in Saturday's College Football Playoff semifinal. The two storied programs have faced off just once with the victory going to the Bulldogs by a score of 21-14 in 1993. This year's matchup will not be a seven-point difference. In fact, Georgia might just send the Buckeyes back to Columbus with a beating worse than No. 2 Michigan left them with in Week 12.
Let's be honest, there are more than three reasons why Georgia can obliterate Ohio State. However, the three that are listed in this post are not just why the Buckeyes will be embarrassed in yet another debacle like the 2017 Fiesta Bowl or Urban Meyer's lap dance, they're why Georgia has been the top dawg all season.
1. Georgia beats good teams and destroys great teams
During the regular season, Georgia had more scares than it wanted. Despite ultimately finishing the regular season 12-0, a late comeback win against Missouri along with close wins against Kent State and Kentucky had the Bulldogs pinned as frauds. However, the past two seasons haven't been about who Georgia has barely beaten, they've been about who the Bulldogs have dominated.
The Bulldogs have outscored their last five top-15 opponents 193-75. Three of those teams ranked within the CFP top-4. In those games Georgia has averaged 474 yards of total offense while allowing 375 yards on defense. In November, the Volunteers who were ranked No. 1 and averaged 538 yards a game scored 13 points while totaling 289 yards with a 2-14 third down efficiency. Georgia destroys great teams.
2. The mailman got a bigger truck
Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett led the Bulldogs to their first national title in over 40 years and delivered the greatest package Georgia fans could have asked for last season. However, in 2022, he has delivered more packages than anyone could've ever imagined. This season, Bennett has totaled a career best 3,425 yards with a 68.1 completion percentage across another career high of 395 passes. Bennett has also been a danger with his feet with his ability to make plays on the ground. This season, he has totaled seven rushing touchdowns and 184 yards.
Not only has Stetson had a career season that sent him to New York as a 2022 Heisman candidate, but he has become one of the most electric quarterbacks in college football despite being a former walk-on and junior college prodcut.
3. The wrong time for Ohio State
The Buckeyes couldn't be playing Georgia at a worse time. Head coach Kirby Smart has put the Bulldogs on a trajectory that will push them past the Alabama Crimson Tide as the premier football program in the NCAA. Along with the total dominance that Georgia has unleashed on the entire country, the Bulldogs are coming off of one of their best offensive performances this season against a strong LSU team. While the No. 16 Tigers have been underwhelming at times, they were arguably the second best team that Georgia faced this season while scoring the second most points it has all season (50).
