The Atlanta Braves will not win the 2023 World Series.
That’s right they are not going to win the World Series.
As much as Noah Lyles may disagree, right now the best baseball team in the world is the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves currently have a .662 winning percentage, the best in the MLB. They sent 8 players to the All Star game this year and currently have the NL MVP favorite on their team. They also have a starting lineup that features the lowest batting avg of a player at .256.
This Braves team can hit. They've hit 46 more home runs than any other team.
They also have a top 5 bullpen ERA. This team is absolutely the best team on paper.
They still will not win the World Series.
Baseball is played much differently in the playoffs compared to the regular season. Every pitch, every at-bat and every inning means so much more.
The argument can certainly be made that teams who rely on home runs struggle in the playoffs when the weather gets cold and the pitching gets better. In fairness, this Braves team does not rely on home runs; they just happen to be really good hitters who also can hit home runs
The Braves are middle of the pack in defensive runs saved. Since the Covid shortened season in 2020, the World Series winner has been ranked in the top 10 of defensive runs saved. Right now, the Braves are ranked 16th.
Atlanta also does not play small ball. They rank last in the league in the amount of sacrifice hits per game.
The Braves will not be a good enough team when it comes down to their defense and scratching out runs. The Braves brought home a championship in 2021 but this is not the year they start building a dynasty.
