What is happening with the Sacramento Kings?

Despite falling to the Raptors yesterday, the Kings are actually doing… well this season?

They are 27-20 and third in the western conference. Kings guard De'Aaron Fox leads the team in points averaging 23.8 points a game, with forward Domantas Sabonis averaging 12.4 rebounds.

One of my favorite players in the league coming from my Atlanta Hawks Kevin Huerter is doing well on defense and playing a good support role for the team. With the Raptors matchup last night Red Velvet led with 21 points and four rebounds.

In a video shared by the Kings after beating OKC last week, Huerter got some new stylings being awarded the DPOG chain.

My point with all this is, how did this happen? Let’s not forget, the franchise was horrible. Their attendance last season totaled 577,583, second to last in the league. They ended with a record of 30-52, 12th in the west and 24th in the league. It could be argued that their team had the least amount of hope or support from its fans in all of sports.

But now, the support is on the rise (whether ironic or not).

They now “Light the Beam” over the Golden 1 Center after every win and that term has become a staple across social media, even calling them the “Beam Team”.

A lot of credit can be given to coach Mike Brown, who joined the Kings prior to the start of this season. He has an extensive resume, but spent the previous six seasons as an associate head coach with Steve Kerr.

The bottom line is, I love Kevin Huerter, and I love an underdog in sports. The Kings are fun to watch and with their starting five of Harrison Barnes, Domantas Sabonis, De'Aaron Fox, Keegan Murray, and the Red Velvet himself, they are developing into a threat.
